Surgery begins

Only hours after dropping the van off at Merseyspeed and the pics start to appear. Here's a quick 'teaser' shot with the front bumper and replica Sportline chin offered-up to an already half-disassembled van.

More to follow soon...

  1. So you're going T5.1 front end...!?

    1. Yep, 5.1 front end with Sportline chin and Caravelle-spec headlights. New spec mirrors and tail lights too. Plus some remedy-work to various scratches, chips and dings around the van...

    2. Nice, I can't imagine how it will look, but I am sure it'll be nice.

People won't know what's happening with the 5 cylinder clatter and new front end!

    3. Just needs an age-less plate and no-one would ever know!

We're not the first to facelift an older van; we went to Merseyspeed with the intention of just updating to a smooth T5 Caravelle bumper - but when you balance out the cost of doing that against the overall value of the van it seemed to be 'dead' money.

As this van will be a 'keeper' for a good while yet, it made sense to invest a little more in the facelift to keep the van looking fresher for longer.

  2. Yeah that seems like reasonable logic. How is stone blue looking colour coded? I've always thought my stone blue looks great/not horrendous with the big black bumper.

    1. Logic - or Merseyspeed are extremely good salesmen ;)

Yeah, I quite like the contrast with the grey bumpers too. But Mrs. Stone174 says it looks like a builder's van (no offense towards builders) and wants the van to look a little more car-like.

I've only ever seen a couple of colour-coded Stone Blues before, they look better if you change the bumper and don't paint the original van bumper with the foot holes at either side of the number plate - I've never liked that look.

And with Stone Blue now discontinued for the T5.1 we should have the 'only' facelifted van in that colour for miles around.
